Wow, what a busy term we had at White Mere last term, more of which will follow! Equally, what a busy term we have to come, not least due to our Summer Fayre on Saturday 17th June, Sports Day on Thursday 13th July, Family Picnic on Wednesday 19th July and not forgetting our Year 6 children leaving us on 21st July for pastures new. Hopefully, we will be lucky enough to get some nice weather to ensure all of the planned events can go ahead in the sunshine!
We wrote to you last term to let you know the outcome of the Headteacher recruitment process and to briefly introduce you to Mr Boddy, who will become the Headteacher at White Mere from September. Mr Kidd also wrote to let you know we would be adding to our teaching staff at White Mere from September and that we would let you know about class teachers as soon as we were able.
Before we move onto that though, we would like to take the opportunity to mention those teachers who will sadly be leaving us at the end of this term. Helen Sykes, Jordan Icke, Vicky Groome, Liz Hill and Laura Holland will be moving on (a special mention and indeed congratulations are due to Helen Sykes who has secured promotion to an Assistant Headteacher post at a school in Newcastle). Their contribution to White Mere has helped us to move to the positive place we now find ourselves in, on an upward performance trajectory and with a school growing in numbers once again. We are sure that you will all join with us in thanking them for all that they have done for White Mere, and to wish each of them every success for the future.
We have undertaken a thorough and robust recruitment process to fill the vacant teaching posts this left us. The process included classroom observations carried out by Mr Boddy and Mrs Hutchinson, as well as an interview process that included governors on the interview panel. From this, we are delighted to welcome five additional teaching staff for September to add to our current staffing as follows;
|Year Group||Class Teacher||Background|
|Nursery||Leanne Lowrie||Part-time nursery teacher at Dame Allan’s Junior and Nursery School, Newcastle. Previously lead teacher in a nursery in Ashington and with considerable SEN experience.|
|Reception||Rachael Allsop||Current reception teacher at Washingwell School, Gateshead.|
|Year 1||Katherine Trodden|
|Year 2||Fiona Orrock||Formerly Y2 teacher and ICT co-ordinator in Thomas Walling Primary, Newcastle.
Currently providing supply cover including in White Mere, where she has covered in Years 1, 4 and 6.
|Year 3||Joanne Grant||Current reception teacher at West Boldon Primary School, South Tyneside with experience across primary phase teaching.|
|Year 4||Jonathan Noble|
|Year 5||Jason Stanton||Relocating to North East from Lancashire. Experience in Year 1 and recently a Year 4 teacher at Cottam Primary School, Preston.|
|Year 6||Helen Hutchinson/Becky Titterton|
Gemma Richardson, who many of you will know has been on long-term sick leave as a result of illness, will be on maternity leave during next year. We wish her well as she continues her recovery and for her forthcoming maternity leave.
We have planned for all new teachers to visit school on Monday 3rd July to spend a morning with their new class. This is so that the children have all met their new teacher ahead of the start of term and so that those teachers who are new to the school will not be strangers to the children in September. We expect that they will accompany the current teacher into the yard to collect their class on that morning, in order that you can all put a face to their name. Mr Boddy will be around that morning too and will be in the yard with the rest of the new team for September. Mr Boddy intends to hold brief ‘Meet the Teacher’ classroom sessions in the second week of the autumn term, where you will all get the chance to properly meet your child’s new teacher.
For those of you with children going into nursery and reception this year, the school will be in touch separately about an evening meeting for new reception parents as well as to arrange nursery home visits.
Finally, please don’t forget our school is closed on Monday coming as it is our ‘occasional day’ holiday. We will reopen on Tuesday as usual.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our PTA school fayre tomorrow between Noon and 3.00pm. We already know the sun will be shining so it’s shorts and T shirt weather + sun cream!
