Dear Parents and Carers,
It seems a little unreal that it will be half term in a week – we’ve only just got back into the swing of things! It has been a very busy half term but a very productive one too. We shall soon have new signs outside school and have recently heard that Gateshead LA are going to renew the ceilings in most classrooms and in the main office area – great news for school! Miss Orrock has also been very busy re-organising our library area so school is getting its very own Spring Clean!
Parking I am aware that parking around school is very difficult and that there is very little provision, especially in Montrose Drive, but I wanted to ask for your support in ensuring everyone’s safety in that area. Please be considerate of the many pedestrians, local residents and other cars in the street during those busy periods at the start and end of the school day. Thank you.
Reception Stay & Play Sessions On Tuesday 20th February, Mrs Allsopp will be running a stay and play session for parents and carers to give you a chance to spend some time in Reception and also to see your child’s Learning Journal. The session will be from 2.15-3.15pm. There will also be a second session at 2.15pm on Thursday 22nd February for those parents and carers who can’t make the first date. Entry will, as usual, be through the main school entrance.
Year 5 and Year 6 Residential Trips I just wanted to remind parents of our Year 5 and Year 6 children about upcoming payments required for the two residential trips:
- The cost of the Year 5 trip to Gibside is £52 – an initial payment of £20 (or £10 for children eligible for Free School Meals) is due by Monday 19th February.
- The next instalment of £55 (or £30 for children eligible for Free School Meals) for the Year 6 trip to Ford Castle is due by Monday 19th February. All payments should be handed in to the school office in a named envelope – thank you.
Parents’ Evenings I just wanted to remind parents that our Spring Parents’ Evenings will take place on 27th February (3.00-5.00pm) and 1st March (3.30-6.00pm). As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, the first Parents’ Evening for Reception parents will be on Monday 26th February due to a clash with Miss Allsopp’s Forest Schools’ Training Day. Appointment slips will be sent out in the first week back after half term.
Book Week Mrs Hutchinson is getting very excited because it will soon be World Book Day! In school we will be celebrating Book Week from Monday 27th February with many exciting events and then on Thursday 1st March it is World Book Day itself, when all children and staff will be invited to dress up as their favourite book character! A letter explaining the week will follow soon.
Punctuation Roadshow – Years 1-6 I am very pleased to be able to inform you that the children will be entertained by The Punctuation Roadshow on the afternoon of Friday 23rd February. I have seen the roadshow before and it is a very lively and enjoyable production – more like a one man pantomime than a roadshow! Our PTA has very kindly covered the £240 cost of this exciting afternoon!
The Spring Sing! – Year 6 You may have noticed on the school’s website that we have been successful in our application to take part in Gateshead’s Spring Sing event at The Sage on Monday 19th March. We will be singing in the afternoon and we were informed this week that the Year 6 parents and carers are able to come and watch the performance at 1.45pm. Mrs Titterton will be leading the event and more details will be sent out as soon as we have them!
Gateshead Dance Festival – Years 4 and 5 As mentioned in the previous newsletter, Year 4 and 5 will be taking part in the annual Gateshead Dance Festival on Wednesday 21st March between 2.00-4.00pm. We found out this week that we have been allocated 90 tickets for this exciting event at The Sage. We will send out a letter about buying tickets next week.
PTA Non-uniform Day – Friday 9th February As you will have noticed, the PTA has provided us with considerable financial support so far this year. This term they’ve already committed £300 in addition to the £1,100 they provided last term. To help them to continue to do this, they’re holding a non-uniform day next Friday. Children can come in their own clothes for a £1 donation to the PTA funds.
Next week there will be a letter about clubs for the second half term – we’ll be offering a Yr 3/4 Mini-tennis Club and a Year 5/6 Cupcake Club amongst others, so keep an eye out for that information!
As usual, if there is anything at all that you want to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
Should you ever have any concerns about safeguarding or child protection, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either myself (email@example.com) or Mrs Hutchinson (firstname.lastname@example.org) as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Leaders
