Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you’ve all managed to enjoy the snow over the past five days and can I take the opportunity to thank you all for your understanding regarding the closure of school.  It is a very difficult decision to close as there are so many factors to consider – Wednesday in particular was difficult as I needed to try to get to school to see what conditions were like, but ended up stuck just a mile from school.  I hope that on Thursday and Friday you had ample time to organise childcare.  I never expected to have to close due to snow in Wardley – I was used to it in Durham!

As a result of the closures, we have had to reschedule a number of events and dates and I have listed these below:

Second Parents’ Evening Session

This will now take place on Thursday 15th March – all appointment times will remain the same as already allocated, falling between 3.30-6.00pm.

Book Day – Dressing up as your favourite book character

This will now take place on Friday 9th March – we’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s costumes!

Nursery Mark Making Session

This was due to take place this week but will now take place on Tuesday 13th  March between 9.15-10.15am in the school hall.

Nursery/Reception Family Reading Session

There were two sessions planned in for last week – instead, we will have one session and it will be on Friday 16th  March from 9.00-10.00am.  Parents and carers should simply go into class with their children when they arrive in the morning on that day.

Library Trips for Years 1, 5 & Reception

We have been fortunate enough to have reorganised these trips – Year 1 are going to the library this Thursday (8th March), Year 5 are going on Monday 12th March and Reception are going on Thursday 15th March.  All visits will be during the school day.

Waterstones Trip Years 3 & 6

This was due to take place last Wednesday but will now take place on Monday 12th March – the permission slips submitted for the original trip will count towards the rescheduled trip.  Should any parent not wish their child to attend the rearranged visit to Waterstones and Café Nero, please let the office know as soon as possible.

Year 5 and Year 6 Residential Trips

I just wanted to thank parents for the payments received for the two residential trips.  Year 5 have now chosen their final set of activities and selected their food choices for their two days at Gibside!

The Spring Sing! – Year 6

As Year 6 parents know, we are taking part in Gateshead’s Spring Sing event at The Sage on Monday 19th March.  We will be singing in the afternoon and Year 6 parents and carers are able to come and watch the performance at 1.45pm.

Gateshead Dance Festival – Years 4 and 5

Year 4 and 5 will be taking part in the annual Gateshead Dance Festival on Wednesday 21st March between 2.00-4.00pm.  Parents and carers have already bought tickets and we are waiting to hear about the small number of additional tickets that some parents have asked for.

Clubs affected by snow closures

Obviously clubs didn’t happen last week due to the snow – where a club has a charge attached to it, we will either put on an additional session in the final week of term or provide a refund.  Details will follow on a club-by-club basis.

PTA News

I know the PTA has sent out tickets for their Mother’s Day Raffle – don’t forget to send in any more stubs if you want to enter!  The PTA is also organising their Easter Egg Competition – I’ll send out more information later in the term.

As usual, if there is anything at all that you want to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
