Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you’ve had a lovely Easter break – the weather hasn’t been up to much but it’s always good to have time to relax! We’re starting our final term of the year and there will be a number of exciting events, including the Summer Fair, two residentials, Sports Day and parents’ evenings – I’ll send out a list of dates later this week. In the meantime, here are some updates and information…

Facebook – School Account to Close Unfortunately we have been having some issues with our Facebook account meaning we are unable to update it as we would like to. We have tried contacting Facebook but with no success and so in the interests of Safeguarding, we will cease using the Facebook account in the coming days until we can close it down entirely, at which time we will set up a new account. We are liaising with Gateshead LA and hope to resolve this issue this term, but in the meantime can I please direct you to the school’s website and our very active Twitter feed for digital updates. If anyone needs any help in using Twitter, we are very happy to help you set up an account and show you the basics.

Year 5 Residential to Gibside Just a reminder about our Year 5 residential – we will be holding an information session for parents when we will also give out a suggested kit list. The meeting will be on Tuesday 17th April at 5.30pm. If any parents can’t attend, I can email them any information. Also, just a reminder for any outstanding payments – if we could have them by the end of the week that would be greatly appreciated.

Governors’ Awards On the last day of the Spring Term we had a special assembly to give out our Governors’ Awards. The winners were those children who teachers felt had excelled over the course of the term in terms of their attitude and overall contribution to school life. Our winners were:

Reception – Sophie Hall

Year 1 – Bobby O’Donnell

Year 2 – Megan Burn

Year 3 – Mia Mitchelson

Year 4 – Frazer Elsender

Year 5 – Grace McGinley

Year 6 – Connick Hope

Christingle Charity Collection Update I realised that I hadn’t given you an update on your how your generous donations at the Christingle service were spent regarding the ‘Send a Cow’ charity – you’ll be delighted to hear that we bought 13 chickens for families in Africa! Thank you once again.

Gardening Help! We are looking for some parents, grandparents and carers who might be able to help us freshen up our plant pots, flower beds and wall baskets! If you would be willing to help us to clear out, weed and replant for an afternoon, please let the office know. We will provide plants and compost, and some tools, as well as a very enthusiastic set of Year 1 children! Anyone willing to bring their own trowel or fork would be very well-received! Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided as an incentive!

Sponsored Read Money It seems like a little while ago now that we had our sponsored read sessions – if you haven’t sent in the money from your child’s sponsorship, could you please do so by Monday 23rd April. Thank you.

Before I finish I’d just like to thank the PTA for organising our end of term Easter Egg Competition – there were some fantastic entries I have to say! We also had very exciting Easter Egg Hunts across school on the last day of term – the children had a lovely time finding their eggs, which were paid for by the PTA, who have also paid for our School Council to go on a special trip to visit the Mayor’s Office later this week. Thanks to them for their continued support.

As usual, if there is anything at all that you want to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

Chris Boddy

Head Teacher
