Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all enjoying the warmer weather – I know the children are having a great time out in the sun here at school. As you will know we had a visit from Ofsted on 2nd May. The inspector is busy completing his report which will be with you very soon. Thank you for completing the Parentview questionnaire and also for the many supportive comments which were genuinely appreciated by everyone in school.

Take One Picture/School Art Gallery – Thursday 24th May Over the past two weeks we have been completing an exciting art project led by Miss Grant. The work that the children have done is excellent and we are delighted by the results so next Thursday we will be setting up an art gallery here in school to show off the great art work we’ve been doing! It would be great if parents, grandparents and carers were able to pop into the school hall anytime from 2.15pm to see the gallery, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and admire the children’s work. All of the work is being framed so that we can show it off properly and in the manner that we feel it deserves – you will also have the chance to buy your child’s work! The framed pieces of art will be on sale for £6.50 each, which covers the cost of the additional resources and the framing that the project incurred.

Facebook – School Account to Close As mentioned earlier this term, we will be closing the school’s Facebook account. This will take place this week – a final message will go through to the Facebook page and after that we will be exclusively using the website and Twitter.

Year 5 Residential to Gibside Year 5 had a great time on their residential to Gibside and the children did the school proud with their enthusiasm and behaviour. You’ll probably have seen the many photos and videos on Twitter but if you haven’t, don’t hesitate to scan back through our feed! Residentials are always so good for children and their independence – we’ll certainly look to book another night away for next year’s Year 5 class.

Parking Unfortunately there have been a number of parking issues around school recently and Northumbria Police have been in touch. I know how difficult it is for parents and carers to find a space at the beginning and the end of the school day – the situation is far from ideal and I am going to ask a member of the Council’s Highways Agency to meet with me and governors to explore ways of improving things. In the meantime, can I ask that you try to avoid blocking local residents’ driveways or pavements in keeping with the request I received from the police. Thank you for your understanding.

Early Years Outdoor Area Over the remainder of the term we will be working with the Local Authority’s Early Years Adviser to begin redesigning and rethinking our Early Years outdoor area. We may well be in need of some unwanted items once we have our designs finalised after half term! You may notice that at the beginning and end of the day there are quite a few items or resources in that area, including on and under the climbing equipment – can I ask that parents and carers ensure children do not use the climbing apparatus for that reason. Children are very welcome to play on the equipment in the KS1 yard under your supervision.

Gardening Help! I hope that you’ll have noticed the very impressive flower pots which our super Year 1 children planted up with the support of two plucky volunteers recently! In the Autumn, we will be looking to prepare some raised beds for an allotment which we will plant up next Spring so we will be keen to recruit more adult helpers in the future!

PTA Financial Support I just wanted to thank the PTA for their generosity in supporting three trips this half term – they have given a total of £600 towards the Reception, Year 3/4 and Year 6 trips. What this means is that we have been able to pick out trips which offer something a little special but still offer them to parents and carers at a reasonable price. Our thanks go to the PTA for their continued support.

It’s great to see so many of the children bringing their water bottles to school in the warmer weather – just a reminder that these are for water, not juice.

As usual, if there is anything at all that you want to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
