Dear Parents and Carers,
I just wanted to send a letter about School Clubs for this half term. We’ll be offering a range of clubs and please register your interest by emailing the member of staff identified below. Where there is more interest than places, names will be drawn out of a hat. If a child misses out on a club, they will be given priority next time around.
There is one change to Karate Club that you should be aware of. In the past, Karate has simply been a school club which has covered a series of simple moves and exercises. Now, however, we are going to run Karate as a more formal Karate Club whereby children will be taught how to progress through their belts, meaning that if a child joins the club now, they would not go over similar exercises each term but instead they would progress and learn increasingly challenging karate. In addition to this, children would become members of the coach’s Karate Club, meaning they could also attend his sessions out of school and even after they leave White Mere, to ensure they continue to progress. Any child who simply wants to try the club in school without joining the coach’s club or moving through belts is also very welcome to attend.
Gymnastics Team (Mondays after school) We will be entering two gymnastics teams in a competition in June and we will be holding trials for KS1 and KS2. The trials for the teams will take place on Monday 14th January after school and if your child would like to try out, then please email Miss Wilson (email@example.com). Please do be aware that not every child who tries out will be successful, as the competition does demand a certain skill set and also the size of the teams is limited. The KS1 trial will take place from 3.15-4.00pm and the KS2 trial will take place from 4.00-4.30pm and children should be collected from the KS2 yard after their session. Miss Wilson will let everyone know who has made the teams on Tuesday 15th January.
Year 1-6 Karate Club (Tuesdays, 3.30-4.30pm) This club is open to all children from Years 1-6. Should anyone wish to join, just email the office (firstname.lastname@example.org). There is a charge of £2.50 per session for this club. Children will be collected from the KS2 yard at the end of each session.
Year 4-6 Dance Club (Wednesdays, 3.30-4.30pm) We are very pleased to be able to offer this popular club once again and it is open to all children in Years 4 to 6. If your child would like to take part, just email the office (email@example.com). There is a charge of £2.50 per session for this club. Children will be collected from the KS2 yard at the end of each session.
Year 3-6 Chinese Calligraphy Club (Thursdays, 3.30-4.15pm) This club is being run by Mrs Meng-Birkett and is open to pupils in Years 3-6. There will be 15 places and they will learn to write Chinese characters, so it will almost be more like an art club! If your child would like to take part, just email the office (firstname.lastname@example.org). There is no charge for this club.
Year 1-2 Cupcake Decorating Club (Thursdays, 3.30-4.15pm) This very popular club is being run by Mrs Cutter and is open to Year 1 and 2 pupils and there are 12 places. If your child would like to take part, please email Mrs Cutter (email@example.com). There is a charge of £2.00 per session for this club. Children will be collected from the KS2 yard at the end of each session. Mrs Cutter will be offering this club to Year 3 and 4 children after half term.
‘All Around The World’ Family Learning Club (Wednesday 16th, 23rd & 30th January, 6th February) This club is being run by Claire Law from the Family Learning Team and is based around Geography and understanding the world. It is open to KS1 and KS2 pupils, but they must be accompanied by an adult. If you’d like to apply for a place (and they are limited), please collect a form from the school office and return it by Monday 14th January. Children will be collected from the KS2 yard at the end of each session.
Clubs will begin next week (w/c 14th January) and end in the last week of this half term, apart from Karate Club which will end on 5th February and the Gymnastics team which will practise each week until the competition in June. The teachers leading the club will email you to confirm your child’s place no later than Tuesday 15th January – if you don’t hear from them, it means that unfortunately your child does not have a place this time but they will become a priority for the next round of clubs.
