Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you well as we enter the final four weeks of the school year. There’s a lot to fit into the end of the term and I wanted to share information about some of these important events.

Staffing for September- We have now been able to finalise our staffing for the coming school year. The classes will be organised as follows:

Year 6 – Mrs Hutchinson, Mrs Titterton

Year 4/5 – Mr Connelly, Mrs Parry

Year 3 – Mrs Devenport

Year 2 – Miss Orrock

Year 1 – Miss Wilson

Early Years Unit – Mrs Lowrie, Mrs Hogg/Mrs McNally & Miss Newman

(Miss Henderson, Mrs Ross & Mrs Cutter will be working across several classes)

I am sorry to inform you that Mrs Trodden and Miss Lymath will be leaving us at the end of term. Mrs Trodden is a very popular and valued member of staff, who has inspired many of the pupils in our school, and I know she will be sorely missed. We wish her the very best as she moves on and thank her for all of her commitment to White Mere. Although she has only been at White Mere for this school year, Miss Lymath has had the opportunity to teach in almost every year group and I know that her real talent in all things musical will be something they all remember! Again, we wish her well as she moves on.

We are very pleased with the interest in our new Early Years Unit and have recently recruited two new Teaching Assistants to work alongside Mrs Lowrie and Mrs Hogg – Mrs McNally, who will work part time, and Miss Newman, who will be full time, in the Unit.

Sports Days- Just a reminder that both our Early Years Sports Day and our Years 1-6 Sports Days will take place on Wednesday 10th July. The Early Years Sports Day (for our Nursery and Reception children) will take place at 9.45-11.00am and our Years 1-6 Sports Day will start at 12.45pm. Both events will take place on the school field and entry is via the side gate which leads directly onto the yard/field. We will be selling drinks, ice pops and snacks so do bring along a few coins as well!

Summer Fayre- The Summer Fayre is taking place on the afternoon of Friday 12th July and will run from 2.30-4.30pm. Each class will be preparing things to sell at their stall and the PTA are already planning and organising a range of other exciting stalls and activities. There’ll be more information nearer the time.

Assemblies…Leavers’, Music and Reception- The last week of term will be packed with important assemblies…

– On Tuesday 16th July at 9.15am we will be having a special graduation assembly for our Reception children. Parents and carers of the Reception children are all very welcome.

– On Thursday 18th July at 2.00pm we will be having our Summer Music Assembly when our musicians will be presenting a selection of their work. Parents of children who have individual music tuition with Mr Robinson and Mrs Healey are most welcome, as is any other parent or carer who might simply want to hear some impressive musical recital!

– Finally on Friday 19th July at 9.30am our Year 6 class will be holding their Leavers’ Assembly. This will be an emotional event I’m sure and parents and carers of the Year 6 pupils are welcome to join us for this special assembly.

Trailblazers- We have been very fortunate to have the chance to work with a team of nurses from the Trailblazers project, aimed at bolstering and developing emotional resilience in primary school children. This is an initiative that is going on across the region and we are delighted to have the opportunity to offer some of our children the chance to take part in the fun and interesting sessions that will be taking place in school. We will be in touch with parents and carers when we are able to offer their children the chance to take part.

Parents’ Evenings- Our final parents’ evenings of the year will be held on Thursday 11th and Tuesday 16th July. As we have had two parents’ evenings already and you will also be receiving your child’s end of year report in July, it is not essential that you attend this round of parents’ evenings. If you would like to, we will be very happy to see you and discuss your child’s year but, equally, if you don’t have anything you feel you need to discuss, you don’t need to make an appointment.

Sports News!- We have had some very impressive performances in the past weeks from our teams. The Gymnastics Team put in a series of very impressive performances in the Gateshead Schools’ Key Steps Competition, while Year 3/4 also did White Mere proud by reaching the finals of the Gateshead QuadKids tournament. We really are very proud of the children! There are several more sports events this term – Year 5/6 are out today at Gateshead’s Futsal tournament – and we are very pleased at the very regular opportunities that our children have to take part in these competitions and events. Thank you to everyone who supports our pupils and especially to Miss Wilson for organising them.

As usual, if there is anything at all that you want to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
