Dear Parents and Carers

I hope this letter finds you well as we enter the final week of the school year and what a busy week it is! I wanted to send out a reminder of the week’s events…

Sports Day Just a reminder that both our Early Years Sports Day and our Years 1-6 Sports Days will take place on Monday 15th July. The Early Years Sports Day (for our Nursery and Reception children) will take place at 9.15-11.00am. Nursery children should wear their coloured T-Shirt and the Reception children should come into school in their PE kit. Our Year 1-6 Sports Day will start at 12.45pm and the KS1 and KS2 children should come into school in their normal uniform and will get changed into their PE kit after lunch. We are providing coloured bands for the children in Rec to Yr 6 for their Sports Days’ teams. Both events will take place on the school field and entry is via the side gate which leads directly onto the yard/field. We will be selling drinks, ice pops and snacks so do bring along a few coins as well!

Assemblies…Leavers’, Music, Governors’ and Reception The last week of term will be packed with important assemblies…

– On Tuesday 16th July at 9.15am we will be having a special graduation assembly for our Reception children. Parents and carers of the Reception children are all very welcome.

– On Thursday 18th July at 9.15am we will be having our Governors’ Awards Assembly – parents of those children involved have been notified by the office.

– On Thursday 18th July at 2.00pm we will be having our Summer Music Assembly when Mr Robinson, Mrs Healey and our many musicians will be presenting a selection of their work. Parents of children who have individual music tuition are most welcome, as is any other parent or carer who might simply want to hear some impressive musical recital!

– Finally on Friday 19th July at 9.30am our Year 6 class will be holding their Leavers’ Assembly. This will be an emotional event I’m sure and parents and carers of the Year 6 pupils are welcome to join us for this special assembly.

Parents’ Evening The second session of our final parents’ evenings of the year will be held on Tuesday 16th July. As we have had two parents’ evenings already and you will also be receiving your child’s end of year report in July, it is not essential that you attend this round of parents’ evenings. Please contact the office if you need to make (or cancel) an appointment.

Crowd-funding – School Defibrillator Many of you will already know that Mr Booth has organised a crowd-funding page to raise the money for a defibrillator for school. If you would be interested in supporting this cause, please see the news on the school website or contact the school office for help doing so.

Family Learning I know that the recent Year 1 family learning session caused some frustration and I wanted to apologise. The previous time we booked family learning sessions, we had to cancel the booking as only three parents expressed an interest, so this time we were only offered a one-off session during school time. We expected the issue to be lack of uptake and had been warned by the service that if we did not have at least six parents and children, then the family learning offer would be withdrawn. Instead, we were oversubscribed and I know some children missed out. I would never intentionally create a situation where children missed out on activities we offer and I am sorry that this occurred – it was entirely unexpected. Those children who missed out will be offered first refusal the next time we have family learning sessions on offer. Thank you for your understanding.

Toddlers Our lovely Toddlers Group had its final session of the year today but it starts again in the first week back in September, so the first session will be Friday 6th September. If you or anyone you know would be interested, do come along!

We have a busy week ahead so fingers crossed for good weather on Monday! If we have warm, sunny weather, please do send your child into school with a full water bottle, a cap or hat and with a coating of sun cream (or a bottle of sun cream which they can apply themselves).

As usual, if there is anything you’d like to discuss, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,
Chris Boddy
Head Teacher
