Welcome back

I hope you had an enjoyable Summer break especially at those times when the weather was very kind to us. Welcome to the new school year and thank you for the warm wishes I have received since taking up the post of Headteacher. I will endeavour to get to know as many of you as I can in the coming weeks. Mrs Richardson.

The children have settled well into their new classes and begun work on their new topics following a review of our curriculum. This review will continue through the year and we will keep you updated.

Over the holidays you may have noticed a lot of work going on. The school has a new roof and repairs have been made to some of the outdoor pathways and play surfaces.

There will be a newsletter each half term which can also be viewed on our website www.whitemereprimary.org

Meet the Teacher Year 1—6

We hope you’ll be able to join us on Thursday 12th September at either 3.30pm or 4.15pm in your child’s classroom.

The teachers will talk about the routines and topics your child will be covering this term and also answer any questions you may have about school.

As last year, there are two sessions so that if you have two children in school and would like to meet both teachers, you can attend a session with both teachers. We hope to see you there!

Meet The Teacher Years 1 – 6

Physical Education

We are sure you will agree that Physical Education can support development in many areas, it is therefore important that your child ensures their PE kit is in school on the correct days.
These are as follows;

Early Years – Mon,Wed,Thur.
Year 1 – Tues,Wed.
Year 2 – Thur,Fri.
Year 3 – Tues,Thur.
Year 4 – Mon,Tues.
Year 5—Tues (swimming)
Year 6 – Tues,Wed.

This year children will develop skills in areas such as dance, gymnastics, ball skills, and health related fitness to name a few. In addition this year, Year 3 and Year 6 will be doing Outdoor and Adventurous during this first Autumn term. As well as their normal PE kits, could these year groups also bring an outdoor kit that they don’t mind getting a bit dirty (including footwear).

Harvest Assembly

Mrs Titterton, Mrs Devenport and Year 6 will be leading our Harvest Assembly on 10th October at 9.15am and 2.30pm.

The assembly will be in the school hall and will be performed twice to allow as many parents as possible to attend. Further details will follow shortly.

We will be supporting a local homeless charity and any donations will be handed to them after our assembly to support the good work that they do.

As most of you do already, you can follow school on Twitter – our account is @OffWhiteMere and we will be posting lots of news and pictures each week. Just ask if you need help getting onto Twitter.

After School Clubs

This term we are able to offer a variety of additional activities for children to access After School.

We will add to this list throughout the term.

Small group Music Lessons are continuing in White Mere this year.

These are taught by specialist Tutors from the Gateshead music service.

Currently Keyboard/Piano and Violin are full but we do have spaces in Guitar group.

Just a reminder that if you need childcare before or after school we have a Kids Club operating on site. The children access many activities including craft and sports.

Our lovely Toddler Group is running again this term and is already proving very popular.

We would love to welcome anyone who might be interested in coming along, whether they have a child in school or not, so do spread the word if you know of anyone who might be interested.

It takes place every Friday morning in the school hall from 9.00-10.30am.

Price per session is £2.50 for 1st child, 50p additional.

A Few Reminders……

Lunchtime—Your child has the choice of enjoying a healthy balanced school meal or bringing their own lunch from home. As is the case with our school meals, sweets and fizzy drinks are not permitted in packed lunches.

Clothing—Please name all items of clothing so that we can easily reunite them with their owners!

Medication—If your child has a medical condition which requires medication (for example, asthma), can you please ensure that school has the medication (with the prescription label on it) so we can support your child.

Earrings—To ensure everyone’s safety, can I please ask that only small stud ear rings be worn to minimise any risk of them being caught or knocked, especially during PE sessions. If you are concerned about your child wearing their stud ear rings in PE, please provide a plaster for your child to apply themselves before PE. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Bikes and scooters—It is great to see so many children coming to school on their bikes and scooters. Please remind them to get on/off at the gate and not to ride around the yard. Sadly there have been a few occasions recently where bikes/scooters have gone missing from the local area including the school grounds. We would advise that any bikes or scooters being left at school are securely locked and marked with child’s name/postcode.

Partnership with Parents

We are busy updating our website with key information for this year.

After the positive feedback from children and families using Class Dojo, we are intending to roll it out across the school for everyone. We will let you know when we are up and running with new accounts. When contacting staff by Class Dojo or email, please be aware that they will respond as soon as they are able to & between 8am and 6pm.

If, in the meantime, there is anything at all that you would like to discuss with me, do not hesitate to get in touch. Myself or Mrs Hutchinson are in the yard every day.
