Year 2Fiona Orrock
Welcome to Year 2
It’s been an exciting time so far in Year 2. Our book is ‘The Jolly Postman’ and we have been enthusiastically acting out all of the fairy stories linked to the characters he delivers his mail to. We have been writing letters of our own in our role play post office and replying to the letters the Jolly Postman has delivered. We are working hard to improve our handwriting and we have made amazing progress.
In maths we have focused on place value; learning how our number system works. We’ve used lots of different equipment to help us understand the concept. We are counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and beginning to count in 3s!
We are studying our local area; the highlight so far was our homage to the Great North Run when we donned our fancy dress costumes and did our own run around the Key Stage 2 yard. We were exhausted, but proud of our effort. In science we are investigating materials and their properties. We have some interesting experiments lined up!
The children decided our class should be called the Meerkat Class and we are awaiting the arrival of our very own meerkat so we can take it home and show it the exciting things we get up to outside of school. Hopefully our wait will soon be over…
Join us for a cake on Monday 2nd October! School photos to be taken on Wednesday 11th October.
Here’s the Autumn 1 Newsletter – the children will be bringing a copy home on Monday! Our printers have had a technical glitch which the technicians are busy resolving.
Our karate instructor, has a few spaces available for new students wishing to start karate lessons.
As the newly appointed headteacher, I feel very excited about the possibilities for the school as we look to build on recent successes and develop and expand the opportunities for all children in our care.
There are a couple of things I’d like to share with you as we start the final two weeks of our school year.
