Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 have begun their time in Key Stage 2 with amazing enthusiasm and gusto. They have been proving what natural and inquisitive learners they are throughout the curriculum.

In Literacy, we have been learning about the author Anthony Browne and focusing specifically on one of his story, ‘Gorilla.’ We have explored this text in many different ways, inferring, deducing, role play, freeze frames and by looking for symbols in Browne’s fantastic illustrations. The children have then used this knowledge to write some sensitive pieces exploring the characters’ feelings and thoughts. Using their new knowledge of inverted commas for direct speech, they have been able to create interesting dialogue between the characters. Finally, we have finished their text by creating their own illustration and writing fantastic setting descriptions using expanded noun phrases and similes. We can only guess what the next Anthony Browne story will be…

During maths we have been revisiting and extending our knowledge of number and place value in many different ways, including representation and partitioning. We have then moved on to mental addition methods with 3 digit numbers. We continue to use our knowledge of number bonds to 10, number lines and place value to support us to ensure that we are confident and accurate with our strategies. It is challenging but every day we are giving 100% to ensure that we succeed!

As if that wasn’t enough amazing learning, we have thrown ourselves into our new topic of the Vikings, conducting, research, writing information texts and using our map skills to recognise some Viking towns in the UK. We have also embarked on learning French with great success.

Every day is a chance to grow, learn and develop our skills.
