Welcome to the wonderful world of Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 and what an exciting and memorable year we have in store! You will already find us carrying out our roles of responsibility within KS2 with great care and dedication! (Scroll down our page to see our roles and responsibilities this term!).

This term, we are greatly enjoying the story of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ within English lessons. Listen to our character descriptions below and be wowed by our use of figurative language and imagery to establish a viewpoint! In Maths, we are focusing upon mental and written calculations for all four operations and applying our mathematical knowledge to respond to reasoning and problem solving questions.

Our creative curriculum topic for this term and next is ‘Kings and Queens: The British Monarchy. From the Tudor reign to our current Queen Elizabeth II, we will investigate the royal families, who ruled England and the impact they had! In science, we are learning about Electricity and we are certainly enjoying this ‘electrifying’ topic!

Fabulous Fundraising!

To celebrate World Book Day, Year 6 girls held their own book sale to raise money for the charity Macmillan. They brought books from home, which they no longer needed, into school and organised the event completely independently. Pupils from Nursery up to Year 6 came...

Bishop Jonathan came to visit Key Stage 2 on Friday 3rd March. He talked to the children about his robes and his role of Bishop.

Proposed Year 6 London Visit

Our Year 6 here in White Mere are a mature group and I’d like to explore initial thoughts as to whether there is enough interest to take this group of children to London after their SATs in June.

Reporting From the BBC…Y6 broadcasters!

Year 6 BBC Educational Visit

At the start of our school term back in September 2015, we set all of our children a challenge. The challenge was for each year group to try to achieve the highest percentage of attendance for that school year (September 2015 – July 2016) and at the end of the school year they would be rewarded with a trip of their choice.

A mixed team of Year 5 and Year 6 went to Heworth Grange Primary School Cluster Athletics Competition. We had lots of fun taking part in track and field events doing them to the best of our ability. Very proud that we got the ‘Fair Play’ award for...
